The High Desert Kills
When a Fish and Wildlife agent returns to her rural hometown to investigate cattle kills by wolves on local ranchers’ lands, she discovers a town hiding secrets. Sage Springs, set in eastern Oregon, is known for its ranching and gold mining. It’s been ten years since Reese Barr’s last visit, but little seems to have changed. Government hate still runs thick, but this time it’s directed at her. High school friends she once avoided now wear badges, and the one person she didn’t want to see, her ex-fiancé Blythe, has had six cows killed on his ranch. The investigation takes a dark turn when Reese and her newbie city-boy partner discover links to a missing girl from years ago. When a local hothead goes missing, Reese must do anything to find him because he could be the key to everything: the wolves, her past, and justice for the town.
